Turkey Hierapolis Pamukkale
--
On our holiday to Turkey we managed to visit the thermal springs at Hierapolis and to see the startling white travertine terraces at nearby Pamukkale.
This was certainly a challenge to portray the terraces in a watercolour painting and hopefully by using gesso I was able to give some impression of the terraces.
I initially painted gesso on the watercolour paper to give some texture to the painting, then using an embossing tool scored the detail of the limestone terraces. Once this was dry a diluted layer of watercolour paint was applied to bring out the detail of the terraces.
